Hounslow | Local Plan Our approach We will protect and enhance the London Borough of Hounslow’s natural environment and seek to increase the quantity and quality of the borough’s biodiversity. We will achieve this by (a) Permitting development only where it can be shown that significant adverse impact on biodiversity is avoided, mitigated, or as a last resort, compensated; (b) Protecting designated international, national and local nature conservation areas, as set in supporting facts, and supporting new designations; (c) Promoting the qualitative enhancement of biodiversity sites, including improvements to access, connectivity and the creation of new habitat; (d) Working with partners, including the Hounslow Biodiversity Partnership, the Crane Valley Partnership, the Brent Catchment Partnership and the Thames Landscape Strategy to improve conditions for biodiversity; and (e) Encouraging the greening of the borough, through landscaping and tree planting, and protecting existing trees through Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs).
